Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. The Texas Hill Country is a vernacular term applied to a region of Central Texas, that features rolling, somewhat rugged, hills that consist of thin soils lying on limestone. It also includes the Llano Uplift and the second largest granite monadnock in the United States, Enchanted Rock, which is located 18 miles (29 km) north of Fredericksburg. The Hill Country reaches into portions of the two major metropolitan areas of Central Texas, especially in San Antonio's northern suburbs and the western half of Travis County, ending just west of downtown Austin. The region is the eastern portion of the Edwards Plateau bounded by the Balcones Fault on the east and the Llano Uplift to the west and north. The terrain is punctuated by a large number of limestone rocks and boulders and a thin layer of topsoil, which makes the region prone to flash flooding. Several cities were settled at the base of the Balcones Escarpment, including Austin, San Marcos, and New Braunfels, as a result of springs discharging water stored in the Edwards Aquifer. Q. i was born and raised in Houston but have not explored the hill country or gone to any swimming holes/springs. I found good sites texasoutside.com but im looking for more personal reviews and tips. So what are your favorite Texas swimming holes/spots? Willing to share secret/ off the road/ not crowded locations? Any must sees? Asked by himynameis - Tue Jun 16 14:36:41 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Don's fish camp in Martindale, right outside of San Marcos is great. Used to go there all the time in college. Mostly a party spot for Texas State University, but you can swim, float the river. This float is more "natural" than floating the comal or guadalupe. Far less people. I hope this helps you find the place, I used to know how to get there. Q. If so, are they frequent and are they intense? Asked by robthegreat11111 - Sun Mar 4 20:47:49 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Frequent? I don't think they are frequent. Intense... all rain in Texas is intense. Reminder that bad weather normally results in the cold mass meeting the warm mass and boom. So, since we have really hot weather, we get brutal thunderboomers with hail and yes, sometimes thunderstorms.
